A couple of months ago, I shared with you about a math app that my kids had fallen in love with: Splash Math Kindergarten. My girls are a huge fan of this interactive, rewards-based math application because it is fun while you learn; and I am a fan because they are really learning math skills and not just playing! With over 4 million elementary school children using Splash Math on iPads, iPhones and iPods, Studypad, the makers of Splash Math apps, decided to go bigger and bring the app experience to PC and MAC users! I received a subscription to the new Splash Math online service in exchange for my honest opinion.
What did I think?
The Splash Math online version is a bit different from the app version, first notably that it starts at the first grade level. For us, that was not too much of a hardship, Miss Goose is advanced in math and was ready to start working on the first grade program, which freed up more time for Miss LadyBug on the kindergarten app on the iPad.
What I continue to love about Splash Math is the self-pace style that allows children to learn at their natural pace and way. If Miss Goose is catching on to one skill, but needs work on another, the program tracks that and allows for more of what she needs to work on, to become available. The online version is more independent than the kindergarten version, meaning there is more self-reading instead of it being read aloud to them. Again, I love this because now it is promoting two skills at once.
The Splash Math program aligns with the Common Core State Standards, so you know your child will be reinforcing at home, what they are learning at school! With grades 1-5, this program grows with your child and allows them to be challenged in all the right ways. As a parent, I like that each grade level is broken down into the skillsets that they need to learn to demonstrate – this helps me when we are working on projects or when we are out and about and I try to tie everyday life into our school skills. The game is still incentive based and Miss Goose really loves that hippo! When she first saw it, she yelled, “HEY! It’s the hippo! This is AWESOME!”
If you are looking for a thorough and interactive program to engage your child in math and improve skills at home, I highly recommend Splash Math online. Exciting news! SplashMath is more affordable than ever! Check out the app on iTunes where you can download one grade for one child (for life!) for just $9.99 or pay $29.99 to unlock all grades fore one child (for life!) – those are some amazing prices! Be sure to visit Splash Math on Facebook and Twitter for specials, information on math skills and more!
