If you scout out the recipe section of my site, you will see that I love to cook. When we bought our house five years ago, the biggest selling point was our kitchen. We wanted an older home (my how things change once you actually own the older home!), but I wanted a large kitchen – not a common combo, but somehow, we got lucky!
I have spent a long time (and likely a small fortune) amassing quality cookware over the years, so I am particular when it comes to pans and using quality ones. When Ozeri offered me the chance to review their 10-inch Stone Earth Pan, I was excited to give it a run in my kitchen. These pans use a natural stone-derived coating to be non-stick that is easy to clean and scratch-resistant (read: not scratch proof – you can damage it if you take a knife or other crazy tool to it!) While these pans are non-stick, please note that they are 100%-free of PFOA. If you are not sure what PFOA is, and why you should care, a quick summary: it is harmful and toxic chemical that is commonly found in traditional non-stick cookware. If you want to get the full scoop on PFOA and why you should care, check out this article from the US Environmental Protection Agency outlining the harming effects of PFOA and why you might want to avoid it in the future.
What did I think?
I love how versatile the 10-inch pan size is, you can use it for scrambling eggs in the morning, make a grilled cheese at lunch or fry some chicken for dinner. It has a silicone covered handle, which is great for keeping the pan from slipping out of your hands when moving it and the silicone keeps at a nice cool temperature, no matter what is going on in your pan. I found that this pan really heats up evenly, which I love. I have a ceramic top stove and it worked beautifully. The pan also washed up well, which is nice. The packaging with the pan noted that you should not put it in the dishwasher because of hard water concerns. This was not an issue for us since we usually do not put any of our pans in the dishwasher, but it might be to you.
This pan is great and I would definitely use more in the line as I feel they heat evenly and cook nicely. I also love that I can feel safe cooking with these pans and that I am not leaching PFOA into my family’s meals.
I found the Ozeri pan on Amazon for $32.95, down from $70 (price is only as of the timestamp of this post). If you would like to learn more, check out more of the German-made Ozeri products on the web!
