barbaraslogoIn 1971, a 17 year old girl named Barbara found her dream and opened a small storefront bakery selling baked goods free from artificial ingredients and focusing on wholesome food.  Her small bakery blossomed into the healthy business it is today, wholesaling cereal, snacks, crackers, and cookies.  Barbara’s offers many organic, low sodium, vegetarian options.  They also have several gluten-free food options, which for our family is a big plus!  I am also happy to share that many of their products are non-GMO certified and they process to have many more added over the next several months to that list!

Barbara’s most popular cereal line is the Puffins line.  The Puffins line has eight exciting flavors from original to Peanut Butter and Chocolate.  Two flavors (Honey Rice and Multigrain) are gluten-free!  I was offered the opportunity to try the Puffins line and share my thoughts with all of you!

What did I think?

Since Miss Ladybug is gluten-free, I of course selected the Honey Rice so that everyone in the family could enjoy the cereal together.  The cereal pieces are medium sized and puffy like tiny little pillows.  The light honey flavor is sweet and delicious.  I like how the cereal holds up in box-shot-puffins-honey-mdmilk – provided a good crunch with a slight milky give.  Miss Ladybug also enjoyed this cereal as a dry snack.  Throw some into a snack sized bag and you have an easy snack that is no-mess and tasty.   Another great thing?  There are only 6 grams of sugar in a serving of this cereal!  That is some seriously good cereal that kids will love, with so much less sugar than other commonly loved sugar-laden brands!

I also got to sample the Puffins Cinnamon.  These crunchy little pillows are dusted with a light cinnamon coating that is both delightful and good for you.  The Puffins Cinnamon cereal is high in fiber and also low sugar – awesome!

Finally, the Multigrain.  Now, I will tell you, I liked this cereal with a banana sliced in – paradise!  It was light, crunchy and flavorful.  On the other hand, my kids were not a big fan – maybe I should not have lead with the honey and they would have loved multigrain like me!!  At least I have a box that is safe from the kiddos to eat now!

The Verdict

Barbara’s has a great line of cereals that I can feel good about sharing with my family because the ingredients are wholesome, safe and delicious.  I also love that they have a full line of snack bars, puffs and cookies (hubby LOVES the raspberry fig bars – run, right now and get a pack!).
